RPS 3.0 Features

RPS is not the only role-play system available for virtual worlds like Second Life®. It is, however, the most complete and most well supported. We encourage everyone involved in (or considering involvement in) virtual world role-play to review the list of RPS features below and compare them against the features offered by other systems. We are confident that you will find our features to be more complete, more condusive to role-play, more appropriately fit to the virtual world environment, and just simply better than the features of any other system available.

Character Features

  • Unlimited, customized templates individually built for each role play environment.
  • Robust, easy to understand, character sheet complete with seven stats (health, physical, mental, social, armor, resolve, and immunity) and thirty five trainable skills. Every character is unique and free to follow their own path.
  • Two available methods of character advancement - via levels or via a point-buy system.
  • Supports ‘character naming’, allowing for players to choose different and unique character names for each environment in which they play rather than being stuck with their Second Life avatar name. The unique character name will be used for all in-character conversations and most role play interactions.
  • Each character is unique to the environment in which they are created. Should a player be active in more than one environment, RPS will automatically switch between character sheets when the player enters a new environment.

Role Play Features

  • Unique, proprietary, 'Impression System' that rewards and encourages actual role play encounters.
  • Skills oriented around role play, yet still useful in a real 'game' sense as well.
  • Customized interactions with a variety of objects within each environment (such as quest nodes, doors to pick or bash open, banks, gambling tables, hidden clues, etc).
  • Fully integrated dice-system that takes a character's stats and skills into account when rolling, allowing for optional 'dice play' in role play situations.
  • Built in role play features that allow a player to disguise themselves, investigate disguises, search for hidden items, provide healing to others, and more.

Economy Features

  • Fully supported, customizable, in-built, monetary system.
  • Customizable items for sale (using the in-built monetary system) that have actual 'game value' rather than just props (though props are also available).
  • Merchant-oriented skills that encourage and support a player-run economy within each environment.

Combat Features

  • Three unique types of weapon (normal, heavy, concealed) and full support for unarmed combat.
  • Weapons and unarmed combat both adjust effectiveness based on character combat skills and are carefully game-balanced in their capabilities.
  • Randomized, dynamic damage results in 'grazing shots', 'critical hits', and everything inbetween.
  • Full support for dice-based combat.
  • Dynamic armor and shields as well as support for dual-wielding weapons.

Environment Features

  • Create your own fully customizable environment, including customized templates, technology level, magic and/or supernatural capabilities, and more.
  • Add capabilities to your environment that allow for role play actions, environmental damage and/or healing, and other interactivity that helps your environment 'live' for the player.
  • Advertise your environment on the bnjrps.com website and bring in new players more effectively.

Developer Features

  • Versatile and robust 'Interaction API' script allows for dynamic and meaningful interaction of 3rd party scripted objects with a player's character sheet.
  • With permissions from environment ownership (granted via the web control panel), the Interaction API is capable even of causing damage and giving out Influence (advancement toward the next level or next skill purchase).
  • Approved Weapon Developers are provided with a full API and a wide breadth of creativity in weapon creation - yet all weapons remain carefully game balanced as each capability added requires sacrificing another, equally useful, capability.

Administrator Features

  • Control nearly every aspect of your environment and the characters in it through the web administration panel.
  • Administrator HUD allows for quick and easy management of ban lists across multiple regions as well as the sending of global messages and an automatic logging of administrator actions taken through the HUD.
  • Template changes propagate automatically through all characters currently using said template - preventing situations where older players have different templates than newer players as is so often the case/problem with other systems.
  • Capability to allow submission of 'character cards' through the bnjrps.com website and approve/disapprove, and/or edit them through the administrative interface.
  • Multiple levels of administrator access and permissions - allowing for a variety of roles to be filled.
